Hi!,

Sorry I can't read/write german, but I'm very interesting by the M740 dvb-t receiver, and this web site is very very interesting.

Do you have any informations about an M740 international version?

I think that in the german firmware, the langage are only german, turkish and english.

In Spain the M740 is sold also and in the spannish documentation the langage are spanish, english, french and italian, so I presume there are more than one firmware (hardware?) version.

In France the dvb-t will start in few weeks (radio+tv), do you think than the M740 will be available in France?

I thinking about buying one in Germany, but I don't want to buy a wrong version of M740: if there are differents versions of firmware and hardware?

Do you have informations about the Spannish version? French version?

Can you tell me if in the german firmware there is not french langage?

Thank's a lot

:)

In the most recent version of the firmware available in Germany (1.18) there is only support for German, English and Turkish. Therefore I believe there must be an international version (at least for the additional language support), but I do not know this for sure.

if the spanish version has also french as language try to buy it in spain
but to have no risk you can buy it in germany e.g. at amazon to test it
(acc. to german law you have the chance to send it back within 2 weeks
without giving any reason, this should also be valid for foreign customers
but maybe you should ask by email first)
so wait for start of dvb-t in france and order it, test it and if it not
works send it back, manuals in english should be ok as after some hours
working with it you already should know the most important buttons
amazon germany is sending goods to france - you only have to pay
some euro more and delivery time is a little bit more

Hi,

Thank you very much for your answers, I think I'll buy the M740 directly in germany if there is only one hardware version of M740.

In spain the firmware support french, but I don't know where I can download it.

I'll update after the firmware to support the french langage as soon as I'll find the spanish firmware.

Thanks.

Be careful if you buy the M740 for use outside Germany as the software is still in its late development state (my opinion). I use my box here in Scotland where many of the more advanced features of dvb-t are transmitted.
I wait for Siemens to give me some answers I suspect they are delating for the new version of software.
Only 30 channels are currently supported
No radio channels are supported
NO DATA CHANNELS ARE SUPORTED
Advanced text using data transmissions are not supported
Currently does not support a tandem media server programme running on PC TO DO TRANSCODING of divx etc
It will be a great box when the development is finished.

see some of my other postings

I heard that some of possible DVB-T features are not available in Germany. And as the M740AV seems to be only a German version I can imagine that Siemens has'nt implemented this features except they think to make additional country variants. Do you know something about this or have you tested something in Scotland and can tell which additional features are working with the M740? It would be very interesting to know.

In Germany I know no region where more than 30 programms are transmitted. In Berlin there are only 27 programms which is the largest amount of programms here in Germany. Therefore I think that this is not a big problem because the situation is different compared to DVB-S where a lot of programms are broadcasted. So it would be interesting whether the M740 would really support only 30 programms are even support more when they would be broadcasted.

In Germay I think that also no radio channels are transmitted via DVB-T.

Because of DAB (Digital Audio Broadcast) no radio channels are supported. Technically it shouldn´t be a problem in DVB-T, but radio stations may get in trouble ... so you´ve two digital systems which work against one another.

I do not think there are features available in the German box which are not available in German transmission.
When I get a reply from Siemens I will post it and I will obviously fully test the new software when it comes out.

I do not believe an international company like siemens intend limiting their product to Germany they will need as many sales as they can get.
Also I asked Siemens on use in UK before I purchased and their reply said I would only need to change the plug (We use square pin in uk)other than that no compatibility problems were highlighted.

DVB-T like DVB-S enables tv stations to transmit multi video streams (different news reports, footbal matches , events in olympics etc) these all use channels so 30 tv stations can use many more channels which cannot be viewed directly only via the red button. This feature is currently not implemented in the M740AV

Ok, but any other standard DVB-T receivers (Humax, TechniSat, Kaon, Kathrein, Nokia, Finlux...) CAN PLAY DVB-T RADIO. So, what special would Siemens do. Is it for German only and fucks off all other people??
