Tschuess, entchuldigen fuer meine schlechte Deutsch, so ich will in Englisch bleiben .
I want to bulid a simple lite network file server, it's disk'd be able to access from my PC and M740 too. So, I ask:
Is there possible to access to Linux disk by M740?
If so, a little "know how", please.
Thanks very much. Danke schoen.

P.S. Is there any other idea to good operating system for it (I want no M$ or such big solutions)? It's going run as a file server only (just sharing folders) and maybe telnet. Thats all what could it do. Thanks for any ideas.

Certainly. The box runs Linux, so it can talk to Linux. Not in "native" mode, but it does. Iīm running a Linux-server for years now (K6-2 300!) and I had no problems connecting the M740. File transfers are stable, even when recording two broadcasts and watching a third one.

I think this forum is not the right place for a crash-course. You'll have to search the Web, especially for setting up Samba.

Usually I recommend Debian for setting up a server. Unfortunately, Debian is set up best by real specialists. Iīd suggest Knoppix for beginners. Itīs easy to set up, it even runs straight from a CD! And itīs Debian based :-)

But maybe NAS is what your looking for. Search this forum for working ones.

There is no problem to use a Linux and the M740AV
I use the debian distribution from inside C't 04/2005 and
activate the samba.
It runs on a AMD Duron600 with 128 MB and i havent any problems.

I use Suse Linux (V 9.2) Seems for me to be the most NOOB-Secure version.

:-)

And the 740 does run good in combination!

(Please donīt start a discussion wich linux is the best!)
